In 1990, Jocelyn Pook and Kelsey Michael formed the Vivian Girls, a band inspired by Outsider artist Henry Darger and his beautiful and strange saga 'In The Realms Of The Unreal'.
In this epic work, Darger's paintings and writings depict stories of the 7 blond-haired Vivian Girls saving the world from evil and destruction. Vivian Girls' music was inspired by Darger's sensibility, both innocent and unsettling in equal measure.
Between 1990 and 1993, Vivian Girls played on the London circuit, and various other places including Glasgow's Mayfest, and supporting Toyah Willcox at the Women In Music Festival.
